Officers responded to the 600 block of Markham Street in the South Media section of the township around 10:20 a.m. on reports of a structure fire with a person trapped, according to Nether Providence police Chief David M. Splain.

Officers say three community members were injured trying to free a man trapped in the home, Splain confirmed.

The three people were treated at the scene and released, while the man and one of the citizens were transported to the hospital for additional medical treatment, Splain said.

The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Nether Providence Police Department and the Nether Providence Township Fire Marshal.
